Okay, I know a few of you have been waiting...so here's what is going on.
At the end of July I will be finished with my externship...July 28 to be exact ( yes I have it all planned out and yes I have it all counted out to the very last day!) Well I have been thinking about what I will be doing after I am finished with my last semester at JCC. Will I go somewhere else for school? Or should I get a full time job somewhere ? Should I move out and get an apartment???
Well... I was offered a pretty sweet deal that seems really hard to say no to...
I have some family in the Rochester/Rochester Hills area. Well it also just so happens that there is a university in Rochester, Oakland University. My Aunt Doris who is a widow, lives alone and has a 4 bedroom house, offered to let me stay at her house for FREE and live there while I go to school. Pretty cool right? Aunt Doris is in her late 70's and doesn't really want to live alone but still is in good shape/condition to be on her own ( she does not need to live in a nursing home or anything.) So I went with my mom to OU (Oakland University) to talk to a academic advisor and to see Aunt Doris.
The advisor at the school said that like everywhere else there is about a 2 year waiting period for their nursing program, this is common at everything college/university that I have been to. Well here is what I have decided to do: I am going to take classes for a Bachelors in Social Work, and then after that I will be able to move into the advanced 2nd bachelors degree program. Its the type of program where if you already have a bachelors in something you can take 1 year to be in advanced classes for a 2nd bachelors. So as of right now I am planning on going to OU for my BA in Social work and then get a 2nd BA in Nursing. Im thinking that sounds pretty good. I will live with my Aunt, and attend OU.
After meeting with the advisor, we went to Aunt D's. She has a nice house, there's 4 bedroom and and 3 full bathroom's, plus there is a first floor laundry room. So I will be all set! I picked my the room I wanted today, its simple, and small but it will work. There is a queen size bed and a large window. There's also a nice size closet and some room for my desk. And it won't be like I have to sit and visit with my Aunt D all the time, I have just hang out in my room/the house and come and go as I please. Plus I have other family that is close in the area that I will be able to visit with.
This is all kinda scary and Im worried, but I think/hope that it will work out for the best. And Im sure it will....its just new and different. As my mom has been saying... its my big adventure.
So what do ya think??
Any words of encouragement/advice?

June 21, 2008 at 10:07 AMSounds like a win-win situation. This will give you independence from home but not be so drastic at first. I am sure your mom and dad will feel good about all of this too. I know we do. Love, Granna- Lulu said...
